Micro-credential Summary:

This micro-credential is designed to help you, as a First Nations student, become a theatre practitioner and technical personnel.  The Binalmalmal Theatre Lighting Micro-credential offers an introduction to theatrical lighting, covering the fundamentals of lighting design, technology, and application. You will gain knowledge about lighting equipment, the principles of creating mood and atmosphere, and how lighting can transform a performance space. This micro-credential offers a concise, skill-focused educational experience designed to impart the fundamental skills necessary for effective theatre lighting.

Upon completion, you will receive a non-creditable micro-credential and a digital badge, which you can proudly display on your social networks and professional portfolio, showcasing your commitment to excellence in writing stories for theatre.

Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Identify the basic components of theatre lighting systems, including fixtures, control consoles, and power distribution, and understand their functions in a production
  2. Apply lighting operation principles to create basic theatrical lighting states
  3. Explore the impact of lighting on audience engagement and the overall theatrical experience, utilising lighting to convey mood, setting, and character dynamics.

Intakes:  This micro credential is intended for select First Nations participants as advised by JUTE Theatre Company. 

Students will submit an EOI to JUTE Theatre Company to register their interest in participating in the course. JUTE theatre company will then advise CQU of student names for a bulk enrolment.

Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations:

Upon completing a micro-credential in theatre lighting, you could embark on a career as a Theatre Lighting Technician, responsible for the setup and operation of lighting equipment during live performances.
