Micro-credential Summary:

This micro-credential comes out of the Next-Gen AgTeachers: upskilling teachers in AgFoodFibre for the 21st century project, aimed to improve primary and secondary teacher knowledge of modern agriculture and the digital capability required for work in agriculture. This series of five micro-credentials is relevant to primary and secondary school teachers who are currently teaching agriculture or teaching agriculture out of field (assigned a subject for which they do not have the required subject matter knowledge or formal qualifications in). In the "Establishing and Running a School Livestock Farm" micro-credential, you will develop knowledge and an understanding of the operational and legislative requirements involved in running a school livestock farm.

This is a non-creditable micro-credential which is awarded a digital badge and Certificate of Completion which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:  

  1. Identify the ongoing responsibilities, monitoring, record-keeping, and risk mitigation strategies associated with animal welfare for animal use in schools
  2. Determine the relevant categories of animal use activities and identify which school activities involving animals will require animal ethics approval
  3. Distinguish between activities requiring animal ethics approval, registration as a scientific user, and activities that fall outside the scope of regulation
  4. Use knowledge gained to complete the application forms needed to register as a scientific user with Business Queensland and submit an animal ethics application.

Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations:

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a non-creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
