Micro-credential Summary:

Physics is the science of energy and matter and how they relate to each other. This online micro-credential will introduce you to the concepts of magnetism and electricity including electromagnetism and the relationship between these concepts.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Physics Essentials set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

  1. PDC116776 Maths in Physics Applications
  2. PDC116777 Mechanics - Motion, Forces and Energy
  3. PDC116778 Matter, Nuclear and Thermodynamics
  4. PDC116779 Electricity and Magnetism
  5. PDC116780 Physics Essentials - Elective Module
  6. PDC116781 Assessment Module - Physics Essentials

This online micro-credential provides a digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Define electrical charge, field and force and recognise their SI units
  2. Define potential difference, current, and resistance and recognise their SI units
  3. Determine the magnitude and direction of an electric field and forces around a point charge and between parallel plates
  4. Calculate values for components of series, parallel and combination circuits
  5. Define and list the properties of magnetic fields
  6. Determine the magnetic field strength and forces due to magnetic fields.
