Micro-credential Summary:

Physics is the science of energy and matter and how they relate to each other. This online micro-credential will introduce you to matter as a substance that has mass and occupies space, nuclear energy and thermodynamics.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Physics Essentials set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

  1. PDC116776 Maths in Physics Applications
  2. PDC116777 Mechanics - Motion, Forces and Energy
  3. PDC116778 Matter, Nuclear and Thermodynamics
  4. PDC116779 Electricity and Magnetism
  5. PDC116780 Physics Essentials - Elective Module
  6. PDC116781 Assessment Module - Physics Essentials

This online micro-credential provides a digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Describe the quantised nature of electron shells and calculate the energy levels
  2. Determine types of radiation, half-lives and remaining quantities of radioactive substances
  3. Solve problems involving states of matter involving pressure, density and temperature
  4. Define and solve problems using the kinetic theory of gases and laws of fluid dynamics
  5. Distinguish between the concepts of temperature, heat and internal energy
  6. Compare and solve problems involving the heat transfer mechanisms of conduction, convection, and radiation.
