Micro-credential Summary:
Physics is the science of energy and matter and how they relate to each other. This online micro-credential will introduce you to the study of motion, forces and energy. You will explore the concepts of kinematics and dynamics, analysing the effects of forces on objects, the source of forces, notably energy, and systems of colliding objects.
Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Physics Essentials set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.
To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:
- PDC116776 Maths in Physics Applications
- PDC116777 Mechanics - Motion, Forces and Energy
- PDC116778 Matter, Nuclear and Thermodynamics
- PDC116779 Electricity and Magnetism
- PDC116780 Physics Essentials - Elective Module
- PDC116781 Assessment Module - Physics Essentials
This online micro-credential provides a digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.
Learning Outcomes:
- Define scalar and vector quantities
- Define, calculate, graph and interpret distance, displacement, speed, velocity and acceleration
- Define and calculate mass, force and weight
- Recall Newton’s Forces and Motion and apply to solve problems
- Define and calculate work done, energy, and power and recall the SI units for these quantities
- Distinguish between different forms of energy and perform calculations involving rest, kinetic and potential energy and apply the law of conservation of energy.
