Micro-credential Summary:

This micro-credential will provide you with a broad overview of disaster management in the corrections setting. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of appropriate response strategies, effective communication and risk management approaches which are all essential elements in effective disaster management. You will learn how to apply a strengths-based approach in the preparation and management of disasters as they occur and reflect on your role in the corrections setting during these events. Case studies from disasters will be presented demonstrating the impact these events have on our communities and government authorities both during the disaster and the long-term effects.

This micro-credential provides a non-creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:  

  1. Identify effective disaster management communication strategies internal and external to the organisation.
  2. Identify appropriate risk mitigation and risk management strategies in disaster preparation and management.
  3. Apply a strengths-based approach to build on existing knowledge in preparing for and managing disasters.
  4. Apply elements of effective disaster management to your role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters..

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a Digital Badge and a Certificate of Completion
