Summary:

This micro-credential provides participants from the conference: Untangling the mess- Improving the lives of people with disabilities through better access to NDIS services, the opportunity to reflect on each of the key speaker topics and gain a digital badge for their professional or personal portfolio. 

The conference will showcase speakers discussing how to effect change and minimise barriers in the disability sector. The conference aims to support people with disabilities, their carers and disability service providers by establishing a platform to share expert information and develop networks. Areas addressed at the conference include: Employment and Financial Security; Inclusive Homes and Communities; Safety, Rights and Justice; Personal and Community Support; Education and Learning; Health and Wellbeing; and Community Attitudes.

Learning Outcomes:  

Following attendance at the conference: and reflection activities within this micro-credential, students will gain further insights and understanding of the complexities on the following speaker topics:

  1. Economic Security in Disability: Creating a secure financial base for personal and communal flourishing
  2. Community Attitudes to support equality, inclusion, and participation in society for people with disability
  3. Resilience and recovery and the use of sport in development for rehabilitation
  4. Reverse Inclusion: Understanding the impact of Inclusive Sport
  5. Safe and ethical practice in the disability sector
  6. Considerations for applying the Ottawa Charter of Health Promotion to attain the highest possible health and wellbeing outcomes
  7. Advocating for Agency: Challenges and opportunities in tertiary education to support people with disability to succeed
  8. Nurses caring for people with intellectual disabilities in hospital
  9. Accessing NDIS funding: Some true stories

Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations:

Undertaking this course enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a non-creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
