STEPS Diagnostic Testing Portal
Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) is a university enabling course designed to provide you with a pathway to gain entry to and succeed in higher education. As a STEPS student, you will complete one core unit and a number of electives. The number and type of electives you take will depend on the course you intend to study after STEPS, as well as the results of diagnostic tests you complete prior to admission through this site.
English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements
If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or the United States of America, you will be required to demonstrate your English language proficiency before you can be accepted into an undergraduate course
at CQUniversity. As a general rule, STEPS does not meet the English language proficiency requirements for undergraduate courses at CQUniversity. A more comprehensive explanation of the English language proficiency requirements and the various
ways of meeting the requirements can be found HERE.
Students with bachelor’s degrees or higher
Students who already have a bachelor’s degree or higher are often eligible for admission to CQUniversity’s undergraduate courses without first completing STEPS, so we recommend that you apply for the CQUniversity course you are interested in. Further information on how to apply can be found HERE. This will allow the CQUniversity Admissions team to assess your application and issue you with an offer if you are eligible. If not, the Admissions team may be able to suggest other pathways that are more suitable for you other than STEPS or refer you to the STEPS team if STEPS is the best option for you.
