Micro-credential Summary:

Academic communication skills are essential for students. This online micro-credential will explore how to structure an academic essay. You will be provided with strategies to develop a thesis statement, structure academic paragraphs, and plan a full academic essay.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Fundamental Essay Writing set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

1. Starting an Academic Essay

2. Structuring an Academic Essay

3. Avoiding Plagiarism

4. Referencing and Citing

5. Using Academic Language and Style

6. Fundamentals of Essay Writing: Assessment Module.

This online micro-credential provides a creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:  

    1. Recognise the key features of an academic essay

    2. Identify the structure of paragraphs in an academic essay (introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion)

    3. Recognise the connections between a thesis statement and topic sentences

    4. Develop a structured plan for an academic essay.

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a non-creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
