Micro-credential Summary:
Academic communication skills are essential for students. This online micro-credential will guide you through the process of writing an academic essay. You will be introduced to the culture of academic writing at university and the common features of academic essays. You will develop strategies to read, evaluate and summarise information, and then use that information to develop and support an academic argument. Throughout this micro-credential, you will develop critical thinking, note-making, formal writing and referencing skills necessary for academic writing.
Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Fundamental Essay Writing set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.
To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:
- Starting an Academic Essay
- Structuring an Academic Essay
- Avoiding Plagiarism
- Referencing and Citing
- Using Academic Language and Style
- Fundamentals of Essay Writing: Assessment Module.
Learning Outcomes:
- Evaluate information for relevance, authority, objectivity and currency
- Paraphrase, quote and summarise information using appropriate referencing conventions
- Plan and write an academic essay that integrates sources to support a reasoned argument.

This module contains the assessment items required for completion of the Fundamentals of Essay Writing suite. Students can only gain access to this module upon completion of courses 1 - 5 of the micro-credential suite.Students who are eligible to complete this micro-credential will be provided with an enrolment key.
