Course Summary:

Computing skills are essential for university. This online micro-credential will explore the use of a word processor to format the layout of an essay and a report. This micro-credential includes using a spreadsheet to complete a workbook, create simple formula, apply simple functions as well as create and format charts. This micro-credential requires the creation of a basic PowerPoint presentation appropriate for university. During this micro-credential students should be able to use the Internet, negotiate a Learning Management System and communicate using email at an academic level.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Essential Computing Skills for University set of 4 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

  1. Computing Skills: Essay and Report Formatting
  2. Basic Excel Spreadsheet Operation
  3. How to Create a PowerPoint Presentation
  4. Essential Computing Skills: Assessment Module.

This online micro-credential provides a creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Produce an appropriately formatted academic essay.
  2. Produce an appropriately formatted basic academic report.
  3. Perform basic spreadsheet operations and create charts.
  4. Create an electronic presentation using appropriate software.
  5. Recognise basic operations using email and a Learning Management System (LMS).

This module contains the assessment items required for completion of the suite of 4 *micro-credentials.

Students can only gain access to this module upon completion of courses 1 - 3 of the micro-credential suite.

Students who successfully complete the set of 4 micro-credentials* developed from the unit COIT40206 Computing Skills for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for exemption, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.
