Computer formatting skills are essential in higher education. This online micro-credential will explore the key computing skills required for higher education and explain the Microsoft Word processing techniques required to correctly format an academic essay and an academic report.
Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Essential Computing Skills for University set of 4 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.
To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:
- Computing Skills: Essay and Report Formatting
- Basic Excel Spreadsheet Operation
- How to Create a PowerPoint Presentation
- Essential Computing Skills: Assessment Module.
This online micro-credential provides a creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.
Learning Outcomes:- Recognise basic Microsoft Word editing skills
- Follow the formatting required for an academic essay document
- Describe the basic components of and follow the formatting required in an academic report
- Identify the standard layout features of a report applying Harvard Referencing Style formatting.

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a Digital Badge and a Certificate of Completion.
Students who successfully complete the set of 4 micro-credentials* developed from the unit COIT40206 Computing Skills for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for exemption, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.
