Micro-credential Summary:

University study requires independent learning. This online micro-credential will explore what to expect from the higher education experience and some of the ‘big picture’ issues that influence your success as a university student. This micro-credential provides an understanding of learning styles, personal responsibilities, and strategies to help you maintain study habits that are Creative, Reflective, Effective, Active and Motivated (CREAM) (Cottrell 2013).

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Preparation Skills for University set of 9 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

  3. Critical Thinking
  4. Finding and Evaluating Scholarly Research
  5. Effective Note-Taking and Paraphrasing
  6. Enhancing your Oral Presentation Skills
  7. Assessment Strategies and Brain-Based Learning
  8. Clever Career Planning
  9. Preparing for Success in Higher Education: Assessment Module.

This online micro-credential provides a digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify effective study habits essential for success in higher education
  2. Apply the CREAM strategy to identify and develop effective learning strategies
  3. Recognise the personal responsibilities of a student required for success in higher education
  4. Understand what stress is and recognise the signs and triggers of stress
  5. Recognise and use strategies to minimise stress
  6. Understand what resilience is and how to develop it
  7. Understand what mindfulness is and how to develop it.

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a non-creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
