Micro-credential Summary:

The U-BEACH Introduction to Beach Accessibility micro-credential has been co-designed by health professionals and people with lived experience. You will explore 10 evidence-based modules which cover topics in safe beach access and the use of widely available beach mobility equipment. Offering benefits for certification, and CPD, this micro-credential has real-world learning activities for you to undertake which explore disability diversity and the importance of equal beach access for everyone. The micro-credential outlines foundational principles (accessibility, communication, safety considerations, manual handling) and demonstrates the safe use of widely available beach mobility equipment (beach pathways, beach walking aids, beach wheelchairs). Each module includes videos, written guidelines, and links to useful resources. 

This online micro-credential provides a non-creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:  

  1. Describe how to create a communication-friendly environment for people with disability visiting the beach
  2. Outline strategies to stay safe on accessible beaches (i.e., beach safety for people with disability and managing risks associated with manual handling tasks)
  3. Identify widely available beach accessibility equipment and how it may be accessed for community use (e.g., accessible beach directory, NDIS, community hire)
  4. Recognise how to safely assist people with disability with their movement at the beach
  5. Compare features and safe use of widely available beach mobility equipment (e.g., beach pathway, sand adapted crutches, beach four wheeled walker, sand wheelchair, water wheelchair)
