Micro-credential Summary:
This online micro-credential requires you to choose ONE module to complete the elective required for Intermediate Mathematics. You can select either the Introduction to Functions OR Financial Mathematics. We recommended you choose the module that best relates to your area of interest, future studies or career.
Introduction to Functions: This module will introduce you to the algebraic and graphical concepts of functions (15 hours).
Financial Mathematics: This module will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of financial mathematics, such as evaluating interest rates, and loan and investment opportunities (15 hours).

The highest assessment score you achieve will be the result recorded for this micro-credential.
Students who successfully complete the set of 9 micro-credentials* developed from the unit MATH40228, Intermediate Mathematics for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for credit transfer, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

Learning Outcomes - Introduction to Functions:
- Use function notation
- Evaluate functions at given values and perform operations involving functions
- Determine the domain and range of functions
- Plot graphs of functions
- Sketch function graphs considering transformations and critical values
- Determine the inverse of a function where appropriate.
Learning Outcomes - Financial Mathematics
- Perform calculations involving simple interest
- Perform calculations involving compound interest
- Use effective interest rates to compare interest rates
- Determine unknown debts using equations of value.
Assessment: One Exam (Downloaded document with 24 hours to complete and submit). Choose the exam relevant to your chosen module.
