PDC106279: Logarithms and Exponential Equations

Micro-credential Summary:

Mathematics is used to solve many types of problems. This online micro-credential will review exponents, introduce logarithms, and use logarithmic and exponential functions to solve application problems.

Students who successfully complete the set of 9 micro-credentials* developed from the unit MATH40228, Intermediate Mathematics for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for credit transfer, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

This online micro-credential provides a non-creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:

  1.     Use exponential (index) notation and laws to simplify expressions
  2.     Use the definition of logarithms to convert between exponential and logarithmic forms of expressions
  3.     Evaluate expressions containing logarithms
  4.     Simplify logarithmic expressions using identities and properties of logarithms
  5.     Solve logarithmic equations
  6.     Use logarithmic functions to solve application problems.

Assessment: One Exam (Downloaded document with 24 hours to complete and submit).

Fee: $251

Duration: 20 hours

Intakes: Enrolments are taken throughout the year on a continuous basis.

Undertaking this micro-credential provides students with information, skills and strategies to help them succeed in higher education. These skills are transferable to contexts beyond study. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
