Micro-credential Summary:

Academic communication skills are essential for students. This online micro-credential will explore the language and style of academic writing. You will be introduced to the use of cohesive ties, cautious language, objectivity and formal language in essay writing. This micro-credential will provide you with practical strategies for drafting, editing and proofreading to prepare your writing for submission.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Fundamental Essay Writing set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

1. Starting an Academic Essay

2. Structuring an Academic Essay

3. Avoiding Plagiarism

4. Referencing and Citing

5. Using Academic Language and Style

6. Fundamentals of Essay Writing: Assessment Module.

This online micro-credential provides a creditable micro-credential and digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Learning Outcomes:  

  1. Recognise the techniques of cohesive ties, cautious language, objectivity and formal language in academic writing
  2. Identify drafting, editing, and proofreading processes in academic writing.

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a non-creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
